Late Friday night hours when Ike made landfall the power was the first to go. We’re located about 40-50 miles from the coast and on higher elevation so the water surge from the storm was not an issue for inland areas.

It all started around 3am early saturday I could hear the strong winds ripping the shingles off the roof. This went on for hours because Ike is a large hurricane even though it’s only a category 2 and also since it was only moving at about 10-14 mph. Speeds for winds in Houston were around 65-75mph for the left side of the storm (fortunately most of houston was not on the right side / the dirty side of the hurricane).
